USA scholarships for students in the humanities: With the Arnold Heidsieck Scholarship Fund, the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS supports one to two semesters of study abroad at universities in the United States. The scholarships are available for bachelor students in the humanities who are enrolled at a German university and whose studies focus on German culture, language, history, music or art.
In 2025, scholarships to cover travel and accommodation costs will be awarded for the eleventh time. The application deadline for a study visit in the academic year 2025/2026 is 5 May 2025. The call for applications can be found here.
The scholarship program of the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS serves to promote interdisciplinary exchange in the humanities and social sciences as well as exchange between Germany and the USA, a country with which the foundation has traditionally had close ties.
The program is named after Arnold Heidsieck (1937-2009), philosopher and German philologist, who taught as professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Born in Leipzig and raised in Wrocław, Heidsieck studied theology in Tübingen and wrote his doctoral dissertation in literary studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. His research initially centered on Kafka and his intellectual contemporaries; his later work focused on German post-war literature and representations of the Holocaust.
